Cycle Counting vs Full Stock Take – Which to Use
Two ways to verify stock: full count (all at once) or cycle count (rotate through items).
Part of our inventory management guide.
Full Stock Take
Count everything in one go. Usually at year-end or monthly.
Pros: Complete picture. Cons: Time-consuming, shop may need to close.
Cycle Counting
Count a few items each day/week. Rotate so all items get counted over time.
Pros: Less disruption, catch errors sooner. Cons: Takes longer to cover everything.
For Small Shops
- Full count: 1–2 times a year, or when you suspect big discrepancy
- Cycle count: Focus on high-value or fast-moving items more often
