HSN (Harmonized System of Nomenclature) codes classify goods for GST. You need them on invoices.

What Is an HSN Code?

A 4, 6, or 8-digit code that identifies the type of product. For example, biscuits might be 1905, soaps 3401.

Who Needs HSN on Invoices?

  • Turnover under ₹5 crore – 4-digit HSN
  • Turnover ₹5 crore and above – 6-digit HSN
  • Export/import – 8-digit HSN

Common HSN for Kirana Items

  • Packaged food: 1905, 2009, 2106
  • Soaps and detergents: 3401, 3402
  • Edible oils: 1507–1518
  • Biscuits and snacks: 1905
